See inside the Radcliffe Camera

Hovering on the right is Oxford’s teaching hospital also names after the doctor.

The Radcliffe Camera is probably Oxford’s most iconic site.

A fine baroque edifice, it was built by Scottish architect James Gibbs in the mid-eighteenth century. Apart from its exceptional beauty the Rad Cam tells a fabulous story of the history of science and medicine in Oxford.

Summer 2024 the Bodleian Library is adding 4 opportunities a week to take a guided tour inside the Radcliffe Camera, Normally this tour only occurs once a week and spots are hard to get.

The summer tours will take place on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Fridays at 10:30 from 1st July to 30th August 2024.

The tour will take you through an underground tunnel, the Gladstone link, and through the underground book store to emerge again in the awesome interior of what has become today the history reading room of the Bodleian Library.

Group sizes are no greater than 14.

Children 11 years old and above are allowed to join adults on the tour too.

Unfortunately, due to stairs, the tour is not accessible for those with limited mobility and infants are not allowed in the library.

If you would like us to organise your tour with an accompanying tour of the city and university highlights send an enquiry or alternatively you can book a tour directly on the Bodleian Library web site.
